Drumcorps people sometimes need some time during which they don’t have to think about marching sets, playing difficult notes, or doing high tosses, but can just relax! The Beatrix Party Committee is a group of members who voluntarily organize this sort of relaxing events. The goal: to have as much fun you can with your buddies off the field!
The theme of the 2010 puzzle tour was ‘Goois’. ‘Het Gooi’ is the Dutch version of Beverly Hills and you could really see the theme coming forward in the outfits of the participants. ‘Gooise vrouwen’, with their very own stylist, Diva’s in a pink limousine, but also the ‘van Dijkjes’, white trash from the neighborhood in Hilversum were all present. Cars were transformed to real luxurious ‘Gooise’ cars; one car even had a jacuzzi (an inflatable swimming pool) on the roof. Off course the visual aspect counted, so people made a real effort.

At 14:00 the puzzle tour began. All teams received a book that contained a route and a number of assignments for along the way. Another objective was to drive as little as possible. The route driven has to be exactly right and also the questions have to be answered right. The teams also had to collect attributes along the road, from ‘Gooise’ flowers to pictures of typical ‘Gooise’ girls with her typical ‘Gooise’ dog. One of the most important picture assignments was to make a picture of every village sign of which you drove through. The area called ‘Gooi’ isn’t very big, but this assignment proved challenging!
The weather was great, and there were lots of drinks and snacks. After the tour everybody came together at the Beatrix’ clubhouse to enjoy a freshly baked stack of pancakes. Then the most exciting moment came. The famous puzzle tour cup was brought outside. Nameplates from previous winners on the cup, ranging from 2001 till the present, only made the excitement bigger. Who could beat these ‘heroes’? People were awarded captions like “most answers correct”, “coolest pictures” and “best visual ensemble”, and of course the overall winners were also announced.

The first place was tied between the “van Dijkjes” and “Gooise Vrouwen”. The organizing committee had never encountered a tie before, and eventually the team with the fewest members from “’t Gooi” won, since it was more special that they had the most answers correct. From this week on “Gooise Vrouwen” will be added to the puzzle tour trophy. Congratulations!

A big compliment goes out to Sabine Lamme and Sabrina Arp for the organization of the tour! All participants of the puzzle tour had a fantastic day. We’re looking forward to next year! Who will be puzzle tour champion then?
