Beatrix’ worked hard during the approach to the DCN contest in Huizen. To make a good appearance several extra rehearsals were planned and Scott Brown was there to help out. The first Saturday was a warm up for him. The corps only rehearsed for half a day, and spent the afternoon watching the Netherlands-Japan soccer match. This was a bizarre moment for Scott, who was amazed to see these crazy soccer fans.
To make up for the lost rehearsal time, there was an extra rehearsal on Sunday. In the morning the corps rehearsed in sections. Scott Brown dropped by the various subsections of the drumline to help improve the difficult parts of the show. After this it was time for a break. Hotdogs and sandwiches where ordered and half an hour later everyone was back on the field for an ensemble rehearsal. During the ensemble attention was paid to musicality and expression.

On Wednesday the opener of the show was dealt with. On Friday there was an extra session for the drums to play and march some difficult parts of the show. The drumline was taught to communicate and listen better, and some ensemble problems were solved.
Saturday was show day and the last day that Scott Brown was with Beatrx’, but certainly not the least touch of his presence. At a temperature of about 30 degrees Celsius many liters of water were consumed. This day was all about the show’s “impact points”. Time was spent on emotion in various parts of the show. The aim was to get the crowd on their feet and impress the judges at the same time. Scott spent some time alone with the drumline during which he explained the intention of the various parts of his book. Together with Rob Balfoort this was combined with the hornline parts, and the rehearsal was concluded with a spectacular run. It was time to bring Scott Brown’s week in the Netherlands to a fantastic end. Showtime!
